RECORDER REPORT KARACHI  (November 30, 2010) : Asia-Gaza Solidarity Caravan (AGSC), comprising members of 17 Asian countries, will attempt to break Israeli blockade of Gaza and will carry relief goods to the besieged people of the territory. This was stated by Fareed Awan, member All Pakistan Trade Union Federation (APTUF) in a press conference organised by Asia-Gaza Solidarity Caravan (Sindh Chapter) here at Karachi Press Club on Monday. He said that three participants from Karachi would join the AGSC, which will arrive in Karachi on December 7, 2010 from Lahore though road. The people of Bangladesh, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and Nepal will also join the Caravan at Delhi and which would leave for Lahore on December 2, 2010, he added. He said that from Karachi, the Caravan will move to Iran and then through Turkey it will attempt to enter Gaza strip. Fareed Awan said that caravan will be comprised more than 100 representatives of 17 Asian countries among them eight people are from Pakistan. He said that the aim of the caravan was to expose the barbarism of Israel, adding that AGSC would also carry relief goods for the besieged people of Gaza. To a question he said that the government has not yet announce any assistance for the caravan. He requested the government of Pakistan to issue visas to all the 60 Indian, who had applied for visa to join the caravan. Dr Riaz Ahmed of International Socialist Pakistan (ISP) on the occasion said that the Indians who intend to join Asia-Gaza Solidarity Caravan had demanded their government to severe diplomatic relationship with Israel. He said that it is a significant development that the Indian intending to join the caravan are from Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Jamaat-i-Islami and other socialist and Islamic organisations. Sharafat Ali, representative of Pakistan Institute for Labour Education and Research (PILER) appealed to the United Nation and other International Organisations to urge Israel for removing blockade of Gaza. The Asia-Gaza Solidarity Caravan is initiated by Asia Peoples' Solidarity for Palestine (APSP) which is a conglomerate of socialist parties, trade unions and civil society organisations. After the arrival of the caravan in Karachi, a meeting would also be organised on December 7, 2010.
